“Every morning I walk to the tent of the mountain. I stand secure. I am in peace. The wind comes. Then the breath of the mountain telling me the path to take. I am gone and am going to the mountain so that I may see the lightning break the sky in two, and rain come to heal it up again.”
About the Painting
White Mountain takes its title from the Mescalero Apache name for what is now known as Sierra Blanca in southern New Mexico as well as the nearby immense gypsum dunes known as White Sands. These two locations are more than a landscape—they are places of memory, silence, and spiritual presence.
I have never believed that I paint landscapes. I believe I paint portraits of daimons that manifest themselves as cacti, ancient guardians who quietly watch over the beauty and timelessness of the desert. In White Mountain, the sentinel cactus stands before the luminous dunes as both witness and protector, connecting earth and sky in a world where time seems suspended.
The painting invites the viewer into a place where wind, light, and silence become living companions, and where the desert reveals itself not as empty, but profoundly alive.
